Mother, May I?

The Curve, Volume 4.2, 2015 – Motherhood was once an expectation and a rite of passage, but many young women today are hesitating, questioning, and steering clear of parenthood altogether as they confront complex new questions—not only Should I or shouldn’t I? but also Am I selfless enough? Do I have a maternal instinct? and the like. At its core, the “Mother, May I” debate explores what happens when social milestones don’t mesh with biological realities, along with a new, burning societal question: Have we raised a generation of young women primed to be anything except a parent? We took a close look at Gen Y to get to the root of the questions surrounding motherhood today.
