Animal House

The Curve, Volume 4.2, 2015 – American women have never before been so thoroughly in the spotlight for achieving milestone accomplishments. And while society is enthusiastically applauding these strides—and championing their success stories—a less talked about, darker side to the rise of women is surfacing. Women have been thrust into a virtual Animal House: an atmosphere of extreme scrutiny, stress, anxiety, and survival-of-the-fittest level competition where anything and everything is possible—as long as they don’t get emotional, gain weight, get drunk, go on maternity leave, or give up their duties as a PTA parent. After nearly four decades of celebrating women’s ascent, American society is finally starting to survey the truly complicated terrain unearthed by such a major shift in gender dynamics.
